This weekend looks set to be a battle between “Sinners,” “The Accountant 2” and the re-release of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” with all three films looking to take in over $20 million each at the U.S. domestic box-office.

Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” is expected to have a very solid hold in its second weekend with current estimates suggesting a drop of around 50% to a three-day total of $24 million.

Some expect the drop-off to be a little higher, but quite a few others are suggesting it could be way lower in which case the haul could be considerably higher (ie. in the $30+ million range).

In its first six days, that film has grossed $71.5 million in the U.S. and Canada, performing the kinds of numbers generally unseen for a horror film.

Meanwhile Amazon MGM Studios launches “The Accountant 2” with previews tonight and sees Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal reprising their roles from the 2016 thriller.

Boasting notably better reviews than its predecessor, the film is said to be tracking for a $20-25 million start that would be on par with the original which debuted to $24.7 million. One key difference though is the new film cost $80 million, almost double the budget of the first.

Then there’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” re-release which has already reportedly scored $20-25 million in pre-sales. The film will have the widest re-release ever with 2,775 screens and that is looking to pay off with very likely the biggest ever opening weekend for a cinema re-release.

That said, it’s a wild card with no-one being quite sure what numbers to expect from the movie.

A little lost in the crush is David F. Sandberg’s game-to-screen adaptation “Until Dawn”. The R-rated horror film has scored mixed reviews but is expected to pull in $8-9 million, quite good for a film that cost just $15 million to make.
