More than 35 million people worldwide—mainly from Europe and North America—now live and work while travelling. They spend an average of $2,000 per month in the communities they temporarily call home, bringing sustainable economic benefits, rich cultural exchanges, and new opportunities for collaboration between the local and the global.

Even in small numbers, the impact is considerable. One hundred nomads spending that average would inject $200,000 per month directly into the local economy, supporting housing, cafes, transport, coworking spaces, cultural activities, and much more. Scaled regionally, this potential becomes transformative.

Countries like Portugal, Estonia, Albania, Thailand, and Malaysia have responded with vision by creating digital nomad visas, investing in infrastructure, and positioning themselves as hubs for this mobile generation. Morocco, despite its countless natural and cultural assets, has not yet seized this opportunity with the urgency it deserves.

To unlock this potential on a national scale, we must act cross-sectorally and with a shared vision:

-Public authorities must create a digital nomad visa and invest in reliable infrastructure and high-quality digital connectivity.

-Hospitality and real estate sectors must adapt their offerings to accommodate long-term mobile residents, not just passing tourists.

-Our creative and tech industries must be mobilized to engage with these international talents—not only to welcome them, but also to learn, collaborate, and upskill through enriching exchanges.

-Cultural institutions and regional stakeholders can play a key role in building bridges between nomads and Moroccan communities.

Welcoming digital nomads isn’t about importing a lifestyle, it’s about building a future. It’s a chance to transform Morocco’s unique strengths into global assets: our culture, our creativity, our openness, and our strategic position at the intersection of continents.

It is now up to us to decide: will Morocco seize this opportunity—or let it slip away?
