Greg Ginn launches new Black Flag lineup for shows & new music
After the departure of vocalist Mike Vallely, Greg Ginn has revealed plans to continue Black Flag with an entirely new lineup.

Greg Ginn has continued to keep the Black Flag name alive despite not having any other classic-era members in the band, and last month it was revealed that vocalist Mike Vallely (who officially joined the band in 2013 after also briefly singing with them in 2003) was leaving the band. Now, Ginn has put together a new lineup of Black Flag, which features vocalist Max Zanelly, bassist David Rodriguez, and drummer Bryce Weston. As Stereogum points out, the drummer has a YouTube channel, but there doesn’t seem to be much out there about the other two members. Unless you buy into the narrative that “Greg Ginn is Black Flag,” it’s hard to figure out how exactly this is Black Flag.
When Ginn initially brought Black Flag back in 2013, he at least had vocalist Ron Reyes (from 1980’s classic Jealous Again EP), but Reyes’ time in the band was short-lived and his split was not amicable. During his brief tenure, Black Flag released one new album, 2013’s divisive What The…. That same year, Ginn sued FLAG–the Black Flag offshoot featuring Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, Stephen Egerton, and Bill Stevenson–but lost. The following year, Ginn was accused of child abuse by his ex-wife.
According to the new announcement, this lineup will release new Black Flag music for the first time since What The…. It reads in full:
