“Urban Legend” Reboot Is In The Works

A reboot of Screen Gems’ 1998 slasher film “Urban Legend” is in the works.
Producer Gary Dauberman (“It,” “Salem’s Lot,” “The Nun”) will produce the project and Shanrah Wakefield has been hired to pen the script.
Neal Moritz, one of the producers of the original, is also in negotiations to produce the film which is in early development stages.
Jamie Blanks directed the original film set at a New England university campus where someone is pulling off murders inspired by popular urban legends.
Jared Leto, Joshua Jackson, Alicia Witt, Michael Rosenbaum, Rebecca Gayheart, and Tara Reid co-starred.
The story of the new one reportedly aims to “be an examination of what an urban legend looks like in a post-digital world.”
A reboot was previously put into development in ealry 2020 but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the studio losing interest.
Dauberman produced and co-wrote the game-to-film adaptation of “Until Dawn” opening tomorrow.
