A few weeks ago came the news that active development on Marvel Studios’ long-gestating “Blade” movie had been shuttered.

The report said that while the film could still happen someday, all development work on the project had stopped. Instead the plan was reportedly to introduce Mahershala Ali’s version of the character in a different Marvel project.

Now, acclaimed actor Delroy Lindo has opened up about the “Blade” movie to which he was previously attached in a supporting role. He acknowledged the project’s collapse to EW this week, saying:

“When Marvel came to me, they seemed to be really interested in my input, and in the various conversations I had with producers, the writer, the director at the time, it was all leading into being very inclusive. It was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails.”

Lindo describes his character as a Marcus Garvey-esque guy who is the head of some sort of community in the film.

Meanwhile Oscar winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter (“Black Panther”) recently appeared on the John Campea Show to discuss the film and confirmed reports it was to be a period piece:

“I was prepping ‘Blade’ for Marvel, and it was a 1920s ‘Blade’ story, and it got shut down because of the writers’ strike and the actors’ strike. I was just in limbo, having done a lot of research for this period piece about a vampire.”

It’s presently unknown when the MCU film will begin production.
