Mexican filmmaker Emilio Portes (Belzebuth) is back this year with new horror movie Don’t Leave the Kids Alone, and Variety has debuted a first look teaser trailer today (below).
This one has shades of Kyle Edward Ball’s viral hit Skinamarink, an experimental nightmare that managed to scare up an impressive $2 million at the box office back in 2023.
In the 1980s-set Don’t Leave the Kids Alone, which also features two kids alone at night and a sinister force, with an old school telephone playing a role in the proceedings, “recently widowed Catalina (Ana Serradilla) leaves her two sons, Mati and Emi, home alone for a night…
“What begins as sibling rivalry over a video game console spirals into psychological terror when an unseen force begins to manipulate their bond, feeding paranoia, fear and dark fantasy.”
José Sefami and Juan Pablo Velasco also star in Don’t Leave the Kids Alone.
“This is a genre gem,” previews FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud. “It’s masterfully crafted and has the narrative depth and style of some of the best U.S. directors working today.”
The film will have its Mexican premiere at the Guadalajara Film Festival in June.
Videocine holds North American and South American rights.
