Witness The Carnage in New ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Gameplay Footage [Video]

We’re almost a month away from returning to ripping and tearing with DOOM: The Dark Ages. As such, various publications have been dropping more gameplay footage for fans to feast upon while we wait, along with a few brief impressions.

Video Games Chronicle posted their 15-minute video as part of the site’s preview of the game, which they describe as meeting halfway between DOOM‘s gory goodness and DOOM Eternal’s flair. There’s more of a frenetic pace with this prequel, plus plenty of the expected flesh ripping with the Doomslayer’s new shield, which can be used to stun enemies, perform some puzzle solving, and for getting around the levels.

IGN also posted footage of their playthrough, which they likened to Master Chief’s assault on Covenant scarab tanks in Halo 3, thanks to The Dark Ages‘ dragon sequence. According to them, the campaign for The Dark Ages feels akin to a “late-2000s shooter” with the focus on cutscenes and gameplay.

IGN also sat down with DOOM: The Dark Ages director Hugo Martin and executive producer Marty Stratton to discuss the future of the DOOM franchise after the upcoming prequel, as well as multiplayer’s place in the franchise and more.

Arriving May 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and the PC via Steam, DOOM: The Dark Ages is a single-player action FPS that tells the epic cinematic origin story of the Doomslayer’s rage. You are the Doomslayer, the legendary demon-killing warrior and the super weapon in this never-before-seen dark and sinister medieval war against Hell. Inspired by the original Doom, players must overcome the odds in The Dark Ages in firmly grounded, heavy-hitting clashes featuring destructible demons, vicious melee strikes and more.
