Warners Develops “Beetlejuice 3,” “Minecraft 2”

The massive success of “A Minecraft Movie” has seemingly stopped the wolf at the door of current Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.

While recent reports have suggested David Zaslav has been decidedly underwhelmed by the pair’s track record so far, it finally seems to be paying off. Next up for them is “Sinners” which has scored stunning reviews and is on track for a decent debut.

Now, in an interview with Deadline, the pair have spoken about their future plans and confirm that a bunch of sequels to the studio’s biggest IP have been put into priority development.

The list includes a third “Beetlejuice” film, a second “Minecraft” movie, the Drew Goddard-penned new “The Matrix” film, the new “Gollum” film, several Dr. Seuss adaptations, and sequels to 80s/90s classics “Practical Magic,” “Gremlins” and “The Goonies”.

One of the biggest reveals in the interview is the plan to revamp “The Bodyguard” with “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert film director Sam Wrench to helm from a script by “Juror No. 2” writer Jonathan A. Abrams.

Mick Jackson directed the original which was penned by Lawrence Kasdan and starred both Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The soundtrack became the best-selling of all time with multiple hits for Houston including “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Run to You” and “I Have Nothing”.
