Tuesday, April 29 – These 5 New Horror Movies Released at Home Today

Two recent theatrical releases have made their debut at home today, joined by a brand new found footage nightmare, a cabin in the woods tale, and the arrival of a big… freaking… rat.

Here’s all the new horror that released on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Fresh out of theaters, Christopher Landon’s (Happy Death DayFreaky) Drop is now available to own or rent on digital platforms. Rent it for $19.99 or purchase it for $24.99.

Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”) and Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) star as a couple on a blind first-date whose romantic dinner spirals into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

Fahy plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (Sklenar), is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.

She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.

Jillian Jacobs & Christopher Roach (Truth or DareFantasy Island) wrote the film. Drop is jointly produced by blockbuster genre houses Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Drop is a swift, fun thriller that’s impeccably crafted right down to the production design, featuring a cast that seems to be having as much fun as Landon is flexing his creative muscles while paying tribute to the greats. Drop has all the right ingredients that make it such an insanely enjoyable edge-of-your-seat thriller.”

In 2014, an amateur documentary was uploaded to the internet. It vanished less than a week later, never to be seen again — until now. Project MKHEXE is now streaming exclusively on the Bloody Disgusting-powered SCREAMBOX, and it’s also available on VOD outlets.

After his brother Sean’s suicide, aspiring filmmaker Tim uncovers Sean’s obsession with a deleted urban legend tied to a secret mind-control experiment. As Tim investigates, compiling Sean’s notes and interviewing family and friends, he suspects Sean was murdered.

With help from Sean’s friend Nicole, Tim’s search for truth spirals into obsession, unraveling his grief and revealing a chilling reality: “What We Fear, We Create.”

The synopsis only scratches the surface of the psychological horror experience that awaits. Go down the rabbit hole with the film’s viral marketing campaign to uncover more of the mystery.

Written and directed by Gerald Waddell, the film stars Ignacyo Matynia, Jordan Knapp, Will Jandro, Jennifer Lynn O’Hara, Dwayne Tarver, Sebla Demirbas, Katrina Eroen, and Joe Solana Simon.

Rodents of unusual size? They do exist in the indie creature feature Big Freaking Rat, a hairy tale of horror with a comic twist that was unleashed on VOD outlets today.

In the film from director Thomas J. Churchill, “Ranger Brody believes looking after his teenage niece and nephew will be the biggest challenge of the summer until his brand-new campground is turned into a den of terror by a massive mutant rat.

“Years of dumping toxic waste into the land have created a monstrous rodent with a taste for blood, and now it’s up to a reluctant band of warriors to exterminate the beast.”

Horror veteran Felissa Rose stars alongside Caleb Thomas, Nino Aldi, and Caroline Abbott, with the cast also including Rachel Sterling and Julie Anne Prescott.

Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd lead the cast of A24’s fantastical nightmare comedy Death of a Unicorn, which is now available at home one month after the theatrical release.

You can rent the film for $19.99 or digitally purchase it for $24.99.

In Death of a Unicorn, “A father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Richard Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”

The A24 feature is produced by Ari Aster (Beau is AfraidMidsommar).

Alex Scharfman (ResurrectionLyle) directed the film, which also stars Téa Leoni (Jurassic Park IIISpanglish), Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Anthony Carrigan (Bill & Ted Face the Music, “Barry”), Sunita Mani (“Servant,” “Glow”), Jessica Hynes (Shaun of the DeadPaddington 2), and Stephen Park (Asteroid City).

Drawing inspiration from [REC] and V/H/SThe Last Cabin combines found footage, survival horror, and home invasion. It’s now available on VOD from The Horror Collective.

In The Last Cabin, “Trapped in a remote cabin, a film crew finds themselves stalked by three masked men who know the isolated forest and their every move.”

Brendan Rudnicki directs from a script he co-wrote with brother Kellan Rudnicki.

“We set out to make horror feel real and unsettling,” said Brendan Rudnicki. “Isolated and exposed, you’re stalked by something relentless, every sound causing anxiety. The Last Cabin dives into that dirty, clawing fear, where surviving’s all you’ve got left.”

Brendan Goshay, Tatum Bates, Isabella Bobadilla, Benjamin L. Newmark, Kyree Cook, Austin J. Rhodes, Cashmere Monique, and Daniel Wheeler star.
