‘Resident Evil 4’ Remake Reaches 10 Million in Sales

Capcom’s continued line of remakes of Resident Evil titles continues to crush milestones, with Resident Evil 4 being the latest. Per Capcom’s press release, not only has the 2023 remake eclipsed the 10 million units sold across PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series, but it has become the fastest title in the series to do so.

“Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the lauded original 2005 title. The reimagined gameplay experience, which carefully preserves the appeal of the original, has garnered strong support from both new and returning fans,” reads the press release. “It has also received wide critical acclaim from the media and users, resulting in the title winning multiple awards globally, significantly driving ongoing sales growth for the game.”

Resident Evil 4 isn’t the only title that has seen a bump in sales. Capcom also took the opportunity to announce that Resident Evil 7 biohazard and the Resident Evil 2 remake have both cracked 15 million cumulative units sold, while Resident Evil Village has earned over 11 million cumulative units sold. Even the Resident Evil 3 remake, despite having not received the same positive reception as the other remakes, has also reached 10 million cumulative units sold.

Capcom hasn’t updated their “Platinum Titles” list just yet, but that would leave the top 10 relatively unchanged. That being said, when 60% of the top entries are from the Resident Evil franchise, you know you’re doing something right.

On top of all of this, Capcom decided to treat fans to a new video posted to X to celebrate Resident Evil 4’s success. And in doing so, they also cheekily hinted at the next entry in the series.

At the end of the video in question, the three signposts that thank fans are arranged in a conspicuous fashion. Fans were quick to point out that turning the image clockwise revealed “IX”, which is obviously “nine” in Roman numerals. Coincidentally, we’re also waiting on the ninth entry in the series, with rumours having already been running around for over a year. Cute.

Will this year’s Summer Game Fest finally give us that long-awaited reveal? We shall see.
