‘Sorority Row 2’ – Josh Stolberg Teases an Upcoming Sequel to the 2009 Slasher Remake

It was way back in 2009 that Sorority Row came along as a remake of the 1982 slasher The House on Sorority Row, with Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger scripting the fresh take on the 1980s slasher. And it’s Stolberg who has been keeping hopes for a sequel to the remake alive over the years, taking to Twitter just this past weekend to offer an intriguing tease.

Stolberg tweeted earlier this month that “the tire iron will be back” in Sorority Row 2, a sequel project that hasn’t yet been officially announced outside of Stolberg’s tweets about the project. Over the weekend, the writer continued to tease the sequel to the 2009 remake, tweeting out a makeup test photo that imagines the return of Leah Pipes‘ character Jessica Pierson.

Jessica was killed off in Sorority Row back in 2009, you may recall, but Stolberg seems to be suggesting that the character will return in his planned sequel. He even tagged Pipes in the photo with a message to the actress: “I hope you like sitting in the makeup chair.”

How does Stolberg plan on bringing the character back from the dead? “It’ll all make sense in the end,” he tweets. He also teases that other characters from the 2009 film will be back.

When a fan asked Stolberg for an update on Sorority Row 2 this past March, he replied: “It’s happening. Gotta get through my current movie first before we dive in full force. New film at Lionsgate shooting this summer. And they hold the rights to Sorority Row.”

The 2009 remake’s cast included Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge, and the late Carrie Fisher, with Stuart Hendler directing the film.

In Sorority Row, “A group of sorority sisters cover up the accidental death of a fellow sister after a prank goes horribly wrong. Eight months later, a masked killer begins stalking and murdering the girls on the night of their graduation for their role in the cover up.”

The remake wasn’t a hit at the box office back in 2009, scaring up just $27 million against a $12 million production budget, but it has gained a fan following over the years. Matt Donato wrote here on Bloody Disgusting back in 2022, “Sorority Row emblemizes how nastier 2000s horror remakes approached their ruthless reinvigoration of older-school titles.”

He added, “Whether caught in the remake storm or held as an antidote for the ongoing trauma-latent horror wave, I’m not sure there was ever a favorable window to release Sorority Row — and for that renegade reason alone, I’m glad this delinquent slasher exists.”

Stay tuned for more on Sorority Row 2 as we learn it.
