Stereolab share “Melodie is a Wound” from first album in 15 years

Stereolab will release Instant Holograms on Metal Film, their first album in 15 years (preorder), in just under a month, and they have shared a second single from it. Tim Gane, Laetitia Sadier and the rest of the band (and many collaborators) seem to really be aiming for those Stereolab pleasure centers for this record, and “Melodie is a Wound” hits many of them, from the vibraphone to the chugging guitars, breezy melodies, layers of harmonies, gurgling synths, groovy basslines and decidedly lefty lyrics:

Flawed, the extradition request
Blown, the freedom of conscience
Is there some form of justice possible or
So long, public’s right to know the truth
Gagged, muzzled by the powerful
Cultivate ignorance and hate

You can listen to “Melodie is a Wound,” both the full seven-minute album version, and the radio edit which neatly snips out a three-minute sideroad the song takes in the middle and is equally satisfying in its own way, below.

Instant Holograms on Metal Film will be out May 23 via Duophonic / Warp, and you can preorder it on double clear vinyl in the BV shop.

Stereolab are touring this fall with two Brooklyn Steel shows: October 1 with MEMORIALS, and October 2 with Dorothea Paas, Bitchin’ Bajas and Natural Information Society.
