After the current and rather lacklustre weekend at the box-office, exhibitors are hoping that Disney’s live-action “Snow White” film will draw crowds and get the rather sluggish Spring film season moving.
Chances are it might, the title is reportedly on track for a $65 million opening weekend which would be one of the best of the year so far – even if decidedly softer than it should be considering the film’s budget.
The new “Snow White” has been the subject of various controversies thrown its way, the latest being a piece over at People which claims there’s tension between the film’s two stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
The report’s sources claim the 23-year-old Zegler “has nothing in common with Gal Gadot, a mom of four kids [and] on top of that, their political views differ, adding to the tension.”
Another says: “Gal is annoyed by the movie drama. She enjoyed filming. She was fine with Rachel but they are not friends. They have nothing in common… They did a job together and that’s it.”
It’s not clear how accurate the claims are, but many feature pieces are popping up all over media outlets this weekend recounting the various controversies and speculating about what’s to come.
The live-action musical reimagining of the classic 1937 film is directed by Marc Webb and held its premiere today with no media attending the red carpet. The film hasn’t been shown to reviewers yet with the embargo lifting at 3pm US-ET on Wednesday. Social reactions however are expected before that.
“Snow White” will open in cinemas on Friday.
