Malta’s Eurovision entrant has used the voice of a BBC presenter in a new version of her song, ‘Kant’, now titled ‘SERVING’, after she got “complaints” about the track.

Miriana Conte, who is representing Malta in the music contest, was due to perform her track ‘Kant’ at this year’s event in Basel, Switzerland.

The word ‘kant’ translates to ‘singing’ in Maltese, however, it was claimed the BBC ‘complained’ about the entry as the word sounds similar to a British swear word. Conte has now changed the title and lyrics of the track, and she’s used the voice of BBC economics editor Faisal Islam on the new version.

Islam interviewed Conte on BBC’s Newsnight about having just a few days to change the words in her song. She told the BBC that she was not trying to “offend anyone” and the word means different things to different people, and to her it means “I’m serving singing”.

In the updated version of the track, Islam’s voice says: “Serving brunch, maybe, I don’t know.”

Listen to ‘SERVING’ below.

The 2025 Eurovision will be held in Basel, Switzerland – following the victory of Nemo at this year’s event with their track ‘The Code’. It marked the nation’s first win since 1988, as well as the first-ever non-binary winner of Eurovision.

In other Eurovision-related news, pop trio Remember Monday will be the UK’s entry for Eurovision 2025, set to perform their ballad ‘What the Hell Just Happened’. The group participated in series eight of The Voice in 2019, where they were mentored by Jennifer Hudson. During their time on The Voice, they sang tracks including ‘Kiss From a Rose’ by Seal. The trio then also appeared on the US TV show in 2024.

Eurovision 2024 broke global viewing figures despite protests over the inclusion of Israel at the event amid the war in Gaza. According to figures from the EBU, 163 million viewers tuned into the three live events including the Grand Final.

Olly Alexander performed the song ‘Dizzy’ at the competition and finished 18th out of 25 countries. He earned just 46 points from the jury, but none from the voting public.
