Daniel Craig has abruptly exited Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock” film at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures according to THR.
The reasoning for Craig’s departure is unclear. Scheduling of both himself and his wife Rachel Weisz appears to be one of the causes.
Other sources for the trade say the actor “soured on the role” after his and Guadagnino’s well-reviewed adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ “Queer” failed at the box-office and wasn’t the award season juggernaut it was hoped to be.
The “Sgt. Rock” film will mark the third pairing of director Guadagnino and writer Justin Kuritzkes following their collaborations on “Challengers” and “Queer”.
The comics follow Sgt. Franklin Rock, an infantry non-commissioned officer who managed to participate in every major action in the European part of World War II.
He’s an incredibly skilled fighter and sniper and has both endurance and a borderline sixth sense when it comes to danger. Otherwise, he’s a regular human.
Like the “Clayface” film, this is expected to be its own thing as opposed to one connected to a larger DC Universe.
The film is reportedly tracking to shoot this Summer in the UK with “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White another name being rumored for the film.
