Acclaimed British actor Jack O’Connell has joined the cast of the newest installment of the “Godzilla x Kong” franchise. Grant Sputore (“I Am Mother”) will replace Adam Wingard as director.
Dave Callaham wrote the script for the new film, which will include several new human characters alongside the Titans as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”
“No-One Will Save You” and “The Last of Us” actress Kaitlyn Dever is headlining the human cast, which also sees the return of Dan Stevens as laid-back monster veterinarian and dentist Trapper. O’Connell is playing Dever character’s brother.
The project marks the sixth overall in the Monster-verse saga, and third of the Godzilla & Kong team-up films, which also includes the well-regarded “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” series.
Last year’a “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was the biggest box office hit of the franchise to date grossing over $571 million worldwide. The Monsterverse as a whole has accumulated over $2.5 billion at the global box office.
O’Connell recently appeared in “Back to Black” and “Ferrari,” and has two films due out shortly – Ryan Coogler’s period vampire tale “Sinners” and Danny Boyle’s long awaited horror sequel “28 Years Later”.
