PS1 Cult Classic Game Returns to PS5, PS4 Next Month

A PS1 cult classic game is making an unexpected return to the PS5 and PS4 more than 27 years after it first launched. 3D platformer Croc: Legend of the Gobbos has been remastered for all modern platforms, and will launch on Wednesday, April 2.

Croc will initially release digitally, followed by a physical PS5 and Nintendo Switch release sometime in the second quarter of 2025. The remaster is being handled by the original developer, Argonaut Games.

“We are thrilled to bring Croc: Legend of the Gobbos to a new generation of gamers,” Argonaut said in a press release. “Our team has worked tirelessly to preserve the charm and nostalgia of the original game while introducing modern enhancements that make it even more enjoyable on today’s consoles and PCs.”

For those not familiar with Croc, it’s an early 3D platformer that launched in 1997 to mixed reviews (fun fact: PSLS sister site GameRevolution awarded it a B grade back then). The game ended up being a commercial success, and it garnered a cult following over the years. A sequel, Croc 2, released in 1999.

“Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is the heartwarming journey of an endearing, humble little crocodile equipped with only his iconic backpack and a wiggly butt as he platforms his way across a series of unique worlds by running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and tail spinning on his quest to rescue his adopted family of Gobbos from the grasp of the evil sorcerer Baron Dante and his impish Dantini hordes,” reads an official description.
