Hot on the heels of the news that Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock” isn’t moving forward at Warners (though could make a comeback in a year), a new report has indicated another major DC Studios film has hit a snag.
The InSneider reports that the “Clayface” will now be going through a complete script overhaul.
Beloved auteur Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep,” “Midnight Mass,” “The Fall of the House of Usher”) penned the standalone tragedy-laced horror/thriller which boasts a tight $40 million budget.
The new report indicates Flanagan submitted an early draft, but his focus is now fully on his “Carrie” remake for Amazon. So, a new writer has now been hired to replace Flanagan, but no name has been made public yet.
The report claims the writer has been tasked to produce a “Page 1 rewrite” of the project. This is a surprise as Gunn has previously indicated Flanagan’s script for the film was complete enough that it was what led to the film being greenlit in the first place. The project was originally not on the cards for the new DC Universe.
Scooper ApocHorseman has dismissed the report, saying it is simply director James Watkins doing a director’s pass on the script and NOT a full-on rewrite as claimed.
An October 1st start-of-filming date has been set for the film, with a lot likely riding on how well “Superman” performs this Summer which might have an impact on the fate of this film.
