‘Fallout’ season two is coming out later this year

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that the second season of Fallout will be released later this year.

Taking inspiration from the hit video game series, Amazon’s adaptation of Fallout premiered in April 2024 and quickly became one of the streamer’s most successful shows. A second season was greenlit shortly afterwards, with filming starting late last year.

Last week, Ella Purnell confirmed filming for Fallout season two had finished and now Amazon has announced the show will be returning this December. No firm date has been shared yet though.

According to Variety, the second season of Fallout will “pick up in the aftermath of season one’s epic finale and take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas”. A short teaser trailer showing Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) arriving on the outskirts of New Vegas has also been shared.

As well as a release window for Fallout season two, Amazon has also confirmed a third season is on the way. “The holidays came a little early this year – we are thrilled to be ending the world all over again for a third season of Fallout,” said executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. “We’re grateful to our incredible collaborators at Amazon MGM Studios and to the amazing fans as we continue our adventures in the wasteland together.”

Over the weekend, Fallout’s Aaron Moten said the plan was for the adaptation to run for as many as six seasons. “We’ve always known that we’re going to take our time with the development of the characters.”

​​Meanwhile Goggins has teased that the next batch of episodes will be even better than the original season. “I thought season one was extraordinary, personally, I was very pleased with it. This blows it out of the water, what these writers have done and the artisans that have come together to tell this story. It’s really gonna be something. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Showrunner Graham Wagner has confirmed fan-favourite video game character Mr. House will play a big role in the new season, while Macaulay Culkin will guest star as “a crazy genius-type character.”
