Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has reportedly started meeting with candidates who could replace current Warner Bros. Pictures studio heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy reports Bloomberg.
The trade says talks with these potential successors are very early and only at an informal stage, with a final decision on the futures of De Luca and Abdy not yet made.
However Robert Gibbs, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a statement to the outlet: “The rumor of an imminent leadership change at the studio is not accurate.” De Luca and Abdy’s contracts expire in 2026.
Zaslav hired the pair to restore the standing of Warners in 2022, but Warner Bros. Pictures has struggled in the time since and more recently has seen several high-profile disappointments.
Zaslav has been under pressure to shore up his company’s share price, and so has reportedly been concerned over the movie studio’s spending on titles with uncertain commercial prospects.
The next release from Warners is “A Minecraft Movis” which opens in cinemas on Friday and is projected to bring in more than $55 million domestically. First reactions have started going online today and suggest the film is quirkier than expected with some surprised to enjoy it, others seemingly loathing it, and all seem to quite like Jennifer Coolidge’s romance with a villager subplot.
Warner Bros. Pictures are. set to showcase their 2025 films at CinemaCon which kicks off tomorrow in Las Vegas.
