SZA has revealed Taylor Swift “was open” to writing something together.
Last night (March 21), the ‘Snooze’ singer made an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, and touched on a time the two had spoken at the Grammy Awards, hinting at a potential collaboration.
“It’s so interesting to me,” SZA said. “Every time she walks up to me or approaches me, I’m just like, ‘All right, this is happening, because that’s fully Taylor Swift’. I think what I mentioned was that I would love to write with her and love to build some things together.”
“I love her storytelling. She was open to it,” the ‘Kill Bill’ artist added. “I think she’s awesome. She’s so bossed up.”
It’s not the first surprise collaboration SZA has hinted at in recent months. Back in February, it was revealed by Lizzo that she and SZA had almost formed a rock band called Pussy Lasers alongside an “incredible other artist” who went unnamed.
Elsewhere in her conversation with Hudson, SZA heaped praise on Chappell Roan, Doechii and Gracie Abrams for their songwriting. “I love storytelling. There’s something about that type of storytelling,” she explained. “It’s a deep inner storytelling that reflects their human experience and it reflects that.”
In other SZA news, she’s heading on tour with Kendrick Lamar later this year. The pair recently performed at the massive Super Bowl Halftime show. It follows the release of ‘SOS Deluxe: Lana’, – a deluxe version of her 2022 LP ‘SOS’, which arrived in December after almost a year of speculation about its release.
In a four-star review of the album, NME wrote: For the most part, the confessional singer-songwriter isn’t simply opportunistically officialising leaked tracks and emptying the vaults of outtakes before embarking on her next phase. The ‘Lana’ songs reveal a more obvious emotional and narrative arc. Personal growth is at the fore. The record is the product of a music industry in which even formats are in flux. And SZA, too, is experiencing transformation.
Swift, meanwhile, was recently honoured at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2025, taking home the prize for Tour Of The Century. The career-spanning mammoth run of 149 shows took place across 21 months, and by the tour’s midpoint, she had already made history when it became the first tour to gross $1billion (£796million).
