Pedro Pascal was nothing short of flustered by a question about his upcoming role in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” on Monday night, but not because he needed to dodge spoilers while answering. This one was more of an, uh, anatomy question.
Sitting down with Pascal ahead of Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity to also ask about “The Fantastic Four,” noting that in the first trailer for the film, we don’t actually see Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, use his powers to stretch.
So, with a second trailer potentially on the horizon — Kimmel noted he heard it might come on 4/4 — the host wanted to know if we might see Pascal stretch onscreen sooner than later.
“I don’t know,” Pascal deflected. “You see all the saliva like evaporating in my throat? Now I’m nervous.”
At that, Kimmel pivoted to a different, less spoiler-filled question, but one that seemed to throw Pascal off even more. Reminding audiences that Mr. Fantastic can even stretch his ears if he needs to — which Pascal immediately joked that they do in the film, “and I fly away” — Kimmel questioned where the limit was.
“I was wondering if all of Mr. Fantastic’s body parts stretch,” Kimmel asked wryly. “And I wonder if you know the answer to that question. And did you even ask that question? Because it was my first question.”
The clear entendre was not lost on the audience, who verbally responded, which prompted Pascal to crack up. As Kimmel pushed on, the actor needed a moment to collect himself before forcing out his response.
“Everything has to stretch,” he said fighting a laugh.
To confirm the joke further, Kimmel admitted that he did his own research and found an old “Fantastic Four” comic cell, in which Mr. Fantastic’s wife Sue Storm (set to be played by Vanessa Kirby in the film) says while lying in bed together, “Have I ever mentioned what a wonderful set of abilities you acquired from those cosmic rays?”
“Meaning he’s an incredible conversationalist in bed,” Pascal quipped back.
