New 'Tesla Files' Documentary Set To Expose Inner Workings of Company and Elon Musk Is Releasing

A new high-profile documentary is set to be in the works about Elon Musk. Slated to be unveiled as a work-in-progress at the CPH:DOX international documentary festival in Copenhagen, the working-titled Tesla Files is produced by the Beetz Brothers and directed by Andreas Pichler.According to Variety, the documentary takes story-telling cues from the "100GB of leaked internal data provided by a whistleblower named Lukasz Krupski, who worked for Tesla in Norway, to German business newspaper Handelsblatt." In 2022, Krupski was fired by Tesla after claiming Tesla's technology behind its self-driving cars are unsafe and should not be allowed on public roads. The New York Times spoke to Krupski in 2023 and he shared that "he was harassed, threatened and eventually fired after complaining about what he considered grave safety problems at his workplace near Oslo. Mr. Krupski, originally from Poland, was part of a crew that helped prepare Teslas for buyers but became so frustrated with the company that last year he handed over reams of data from the carmaker’s computer system to Handelsblatt, a German business newspaper." Amongst the data he handed over was a list of Tesla employees, including Musk himself as well as their social Security numbers and other personal information. The data also included internal Tesla communications of thousands of accident reports. The documentary is made in hopes to provide audiences with a way to comprehend the choices made by Musk. Aiming at exposing both Tesla and questioning Musk's political ambitions, the synopsis reads that the doc is produced in order to "understand Elon Musk today, we must examine The Elon Musk System — how he announces ideas, executes them, and relentlessly pushes forward technological solutions, often at the expense of truth and with real human consequences." The documentary will provide testimonies from former Tesla employees and whistleblowers. Beetz Brothers CEO Christian Beetz told Variety, "We wanted to move beyond the data and show the human cost — families affected, victims, lawyers trying to fight back. These stories are painful and global." Producer of the doc Anne Von Petersdorff said, "Right now, Tesla is under investigation across Europe and by the Department of Justice in the U.S. The timing of Musk’s political rise raises serious questions — was it a move to protect himself from accountability?"Aiming to combine three interconnected narratives, the first storyline " examines Musk’s grip on Tesla and his transformation from tech entrepreneur to political strategist." The second includes "victim stories, which focus on personal tragedies caused by Tesla’s autopilot, contrasting Musk’s grand technological ambitions with the real suffering of those left behind." The third focuses on investigations into Musk from journalists and lawyers, identifying the inner workings of the company and "revealing a pattern of cover-ups, regulatory evasion, and a growing entanglement between Musk’s empire and political power." The doc is reportedly halfway through produciton.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
