Miley Cyrus announces “bold” and “visual” ninth album ‘Something Beautiful’

Miley Cyrus has announced her “bold” and “visual” new album ‘Something Beautiful’ and revealed the record’s artwork.

The singer’s ninth studio album will be released on May 30 via Columbia Records, and it will be comprised of 13 original tracks. Cyrus serves as executive producer on the record, alongside Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, Alabama Shakes).

In an Instagram post on Monday (March 24), Cyrus unveiled the artwork for the record, which sees her draped in 1997 Thierry Mugler couture, photographed by Glen Luchford in “a striking nod to the album’s bold aesthetic and visual storytelling”.

The album is available to pre-order now in multiple exclusive formats, including signed vinyl and CDs, limited edition vinyl and two special box sets. Pre-order your copy of ‘Something Beautiful’ here.

Cyrus had been teasing her new album in recent weeks, with her social media profile pictures and website being updated to depict her silhouette. Fans also reported seeing posters for ‘Something Beautiful’ around the world.

She has previously suggested that the album will be inspired by Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’. “We really leaned in. And so I have this heart-first attachment to it. My idea was making ‘The Wall’, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture,” she said.

She described the vibe of her album as “hypnotising and glamorous,” saying: “It’s a concept album that’s an attempt to medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music.

It will be the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, which NME gave four stars and said: “It all adds up to an album that holds your full attention even if it isn’t Cyrus’s boldest or most visionary. ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ certainly feels like an accurate reflection of who she is as an artist – and a person – in 2023. She’s still working out what she wants from a relationship. She knows she can pull off different musical styles even when she’s not trying to make bangers (or ‘Bangerz’). And when she sings “But don’t forget, baby I’m a wildcard” on the third-to-last song, you’ll definitely believe her.”

In December, Cyrus released her latest single ‘Beautiful That Way’ which was written and recorded for the film The Last Showgirl, which starred Pamela Anderson. The ballad was co-written by Lykke Li and Andrew Wyatt and was nominated for a Golden Globe under Best Original Song.
