Michelle Yeoh Leads Action Film “The Surgeon”

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will lead the action feature “The Surgeon” which will launch sales at the Cannes market.

Indie Spirit winner and “The Resident” series creator Roshan Sethi will write and direct the film, which John Woo’s Thunder Road label is backing.

Yeoh will play a retired surgeon who is abducted and forced to operate on a mystery patient. Though greatly outnumbered, her captors have overlooked her greatest weapon – 35 years of surgical experience.

This leads to an explosive and brutal confrontation during which “she outwits and cuts down her enemies in a visual style that defies anything you have seen before”. Plans are for this to be a potential franchise launcher.

Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, John Schoenfelder, Russell Ackerman, Adam Kolbrenner and Steve Klinsky produce. Former Lionsgate chairman Patrick Wachsberger, who previously teamed with Iwanyk on the “John Wick” franchise, will help launch sales at Cannes.

Yeoh is coming offroles in “Wicked” and the upcoming sequel “Wicked: For Good,” the telemovie “Star Trek: Section 31,” and “The Brothers Sun” series. She has both “Avatar 4” and the “Blade Runner 2099” TV series on the way.
