Estevez Has Penned A “Mighty Ducks 4”

In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Emilio Estevez has surprisingly revealed that he has penned a spec script for a fourth film in “The Mighty Ducks” franchise.

Estevez starred as coach Gordon Bombay in the original 1992 kids hockey film and then reprised it in two film sequels, along with the 2021 Disney+ series “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”.

In that show, Gordon was somewhat sidelined to a supporting status in the first season. In that run, his love for hockey reignites when a new underdog team begins to play at the rink he owns. He later becomes their assistant coach as they face off against the Ducks.

Estevez exited the series before the second and final season was filmed, saying it came down to “nothing more than a good old-fashioned contract dispute” along with that old classic of “creative differences”. Now, he reveals he has penned a script for a fourth film but adds that Disney isn’t interested in making it:

“I also wrote ‘Mighty Ducks 4’. I wanted to make up for all of the disasters that happened on the ‘Game Changers’ series. [It’s] a feature script that had coach Bombay coming back, being pulled back in by Joshua Jackson’s character and Kenan Thompson’s character and to coach a new team, an expansion team, for the professional women’s hockey league.

So, it would be an all-girl team. Now, when we discover Bombay, he’s coaching roller derby and so he says, ‘My girls are going with me. They have to have a shot.’ It was charming and contemporary and cool and organically of the moment. It’s where we’re at.. Disney was like, ‘We don’t want to pursue that.'”

“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” launched to positive reviews when it aired, but the show was removed from Disney+ in May 2023 as part of a cost-cutting content purge.
