“Dungeons” Team To Write “Monopoly”

Acclaimed “Spider-Man: Homecoming” scribes and “Game Night” directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are closing a deal to write a movie film based on the board game “Monopoly” at Lionsgate, LuckyChap and Hasbro Entertainment.

It would mark the pair’s second film based on a Hasbro property, the first being 2023’s “Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves” which grossed over $200 million at the global box office and was received with very positive reviews.

The Monopoly game itself began in 1935 with players setting out to acquire properties and build houses and hotels, all while avoiding bankruptcy and the ‘go directly to jail’ card. Nearly 1 billion copies of the game have been sold.

Multiple attempts to adapt the game into film have taken place across nearly two decades with no-one able to crack it. Filmmakers Ridley Scott and Tim Story were both linked at points in the past.

Lionsgate completed its purchase of Hasbro’s film and TV arm eOne in December which included the rights to “Monopoly”.

Daley and Goldstein most recently wrote and directed the upcoming Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh action adventure “Mayday” for Apple.
