Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly removed the entire remaining original “Looney Tunes” collection from the Max streaming service.
Around 255 original Looney Tunes cartoons that were still on the service have now been pulled, the action coming as the first feature-length Looney Tunes animated movie “The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Story” was released in cinemas on Friday.
Warners began the removal back in 2022 when they pulled over 250 shorts from its streaming platform – essentially seasons 16 through 31 of the cartoons which spanned from 1950 through 2004.
Months later, the remaining cartoons popped up in the ‘Titles Leaving Max’ section of a press release – something they claimed at the time was a mistake. The ‘mistake’ has now happened with the remaining 255 shorts comprising Seasons 1-15 now gone.
The only titles remaining on the platform under a Looney Tunes search are the most recently produced “Looney Tunes Cartoon”, 2015’s “New Looney Tunes,” “Baby Looney Tunes” and “Bugs Bunny Builders”.
Combined with the way Warners fobbed off “The Day The Earth Blew Up” to indie distributor Ketchup Entertainment and the mishandling of “Coyote vs. Acme,” it’s understandable the decision has led to major fan backlash with social media currently on fire with rage over the decision and targeting CEO David Zaslav with neglectful treatment of a brand crucial to the studio’s identity.
