“Star Wars: KOTOR” Remake Is Still Alive

Developer Saber Interactive (“Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2”) has confirmed that its “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” remake for PS5 exclusively is still in development.

The project was first announced back in 2021 and has been engulfed in development turmoil as it was initially at Aspyr Media before being shifted over to Saber.

In November 2023 it was reported the game’s production had been paused indefinitely, then last March came word that Embracer Group was selling Saber Interactive to private investors and work would continue on the remake.

Saber CEO Matthew Karch confirmed in April the game was ‘alive and well’. Then… radio silence with nothing coming out about it since. That changed this week with Karch telling Game File the title is still in development but couldn’t say more.

According to VGC, it’s then a PR rep steps in and explains that Saber wants to allow “Star Wars” franchise owner Disney to take the lead in talking about games tied to that company’s characters.

The game unfolds four millennia before ‘A New Hope’ and begins as Darth Malak, a Dark Lord of the Sith, has unleashed a Sith armada against the Republic.

Malak’s aggression has left the Jedi scattered and vulnerable with many Jedi Knights having either fallen or sworn allegiance to Malak. The Jedi player must venture to different planets in the galaxy in order to defeat Malak.

The game was first released in 2003 and was universally well-received. A sequel was released in 2004 and an MMORPG spin-off in 2011.
