Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” is coming in ahead of expectations, with the film doing better than expected $27.5 million on Saturday, reports Deadline.
As a result, the film’s numbers are being revised upwards. It is now tracking for a $88.5 million three-day and possibly $100 million four-day holiday opening domestically.
The worldwide box-office total for its debut weekend is coming just ahead of projections with $192.4 million. Considering the film’s concerning B- CinemaScore, the lowest for an MCU film to date, these numbers are being seen as very good.
If it holds, Brave New World will have the fourth biggest Presidents Day weekend opening ever – behind only “Black Panther” ($242M), “Deadpool” ($152M) and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” ($120M).
The trade also indicates that the film must earn $425 million at the global box office to break even. By mid-week, it should already be halfway there.
“Paddington in Peru” is also performing slightly ahead of expectations, coming in at $13 million for the three-day and $16 million for the four-day. Audiences are loving the film with the title landing an A CinemaScore – the same as the previous two films in the series.
The overall box office for the holiday weekend is expected to be $178.2 million, up 89% from the same period last year.
