Luke Evans (“Beauty and the Beast”), Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) and Daniel Zovatto (“Woman of the Hour”) have officially signed on for the action thriller “Bear County”.
Oscar winner Russell Crowe leads the cast as an ageing but formidable club owner named Manco Kapak (a likely nod to Incan civilization founder Manco Cápac).
In the film, Manco gets robbed by a masked gunman and his dreams of selling his club and riding off into the sunset alongside his girlfriend appear more distant than ever.
Cartel bosses are breathing down his neck while a young upstart has been posing as the new guy in town eager to purchase the club.
Evans plays Joe Carver, an undercover federal agent posing as a potential buyer for Kapak’s club in hopes of infiltrating the cartel he’s washing money for.
Paul plays Jeff, an unassuming community college teacher who gets roped into the robbery scheme. Zovatto plays Rodriguez, the cartel’s top man in Los Angeles.
Filmmaker Derrick Borte (“Unhinged”) directs the project with Nina Dobrev and Teresa Palmer co-starring. Borte co-wrote the film with Daniel Forte based on the 2010 Thomas Perry novel “Strip”.
Filming is currently underway in Australia with Mark Fasano, Jeffrey Greenstein, Deborah Glover and Mark Bower producing.
