Linda Cardellini to Star as Pamela Voorhees in ‘Crystal Lake,’ Peacock’s ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel

Peacock has found its Pamela Voorhees for the highly anticipated “Friday the 13th” prequel series, “Crystal Lake.” Linda Cardellini will play Jason Voorhees mom in the A24 original.

Last month, it was leaked that Cardellini was reportedly in talks to play the role, which was originally being eyed by Charlize Theron. First known to most audiences for her role in “Freaks and Geeks,” Cardellini starred in the Netflix original from Liz Feldman “Dead To Me,” a role which earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also worked with Feldman on Netflix’s “No Good Dead,” and is also known for her work on “Bloodline,” “Mad Men” and “ER.”

Pamela Voorhees initially appeared in the first “Friday the 13th” movie in 1980 and was portrayed by Betsy Palmer. A cook at Camp Crystal Lake, Pamela worked at the camp the year that her son drowned. Throughout that first movie, she stalks and kills the negligent counselors in an attempt to make sure no other children will suffer the same fate as her late son. She is ultimately decapitated by the end of that movie but returns repeatedly as part of Jason’s imagination.

Little is known about the upcoming series other than it is set in the immediate aftermath Jason Voorhees’ drowning as a young child.

“Crystal Lake” is created, written, showrun and executive produced by Brad Caleb Kane, who is also behind “It: Welcome to Derry,” “Tokyo Vice” and “Warrior.” Other executive producers for A24 include Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian and Stuart Manashil.
