First Trailer: Zach Cregger’s “Weapons”

After a series of cryptic teasers, consisting mostly of nighttime surveillance footage, New Line Cinema has released the proper first trailer for “Barbarian” director Zach Cregger’s new film “Weapons”.

The mystery unfolds in the small town of Maybrook. Seventeen children wake up and voluntarily walk out the front door of their homes at 2:17am one morning – inexplicably disappearing without a trace.

In the wake of this, the community looks for answers while struggling to comprehend what may have happened to them. Josh Brolin and Julia Garner leads the cast which also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, June Diane Raphael and Toby Huss.

Speaking with EW recently, Cregger calls this film “more ambitious in almost every way” than “Barbarian” with the story being “weirder and it’s twistier and it’s bigger”.

While much of the focus is on the mystery of the missing kids, Cregger says that mystery is only half the movie:

“The movie will fork and change and reinvent and go in new places. It doesn’t abandon that question, believe me, but that’s not the whole movie at all. By the midpoint, we’ve moved on to way crazier s— than that”

He also surprisingly revealed that Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia” played a key role in shaping his creative vision, calling that film an “unapologetic epic” with a bold scale, a scale he wanted to bring to a horror feature.

“Weapons” will be released in U.S. cinemas on August 8th 2025.
