Disney’s Hollywood premiere of “Snow White” on Saturday night is shrinking its red carpet, the event’s media coverage being limited to photographers and a house crew according to Variety.
As a result, dozens of media outlets usually invited by Disney to interview the cast and creatives at its premieres will not be attending. The scaled back plans come as controversies surround the Marc Webb-directed film opening next Friday.
The film has famously already weathered a number of controversies which first emerged with the casting choice of Latina actor Rachel Zegler and her comments about the original film being ‘dated’.
Zegler has subsequently reasoned that the backlash to the film is due to the ‘passion’ for the original film. Making far more headlines were criticisms over the film’s handling of the seven dwarves.
On top of that world politics have also come into play with both Zegler and co-star Gal Gadot making political statements in recent months that have irked some.
Gadot was on “Good Morning America” on Monday in support of the movie, while Zegler will be promoting the film in various global appearances.
The film’s final budget remains unclear but the film is said to be tracking for a $65 million opening weekend domestically.
