Deadguy announce first album in 30 years, ‘Near-Death Travel Services’

After reuniting in 2021 for live shows and discussing the prospect of new music, NJ metalcore pioneers Deadguy have now announced a new album. It’s their second LP ever, and it comes 30 years after their iconic, influential debut, 1995’s Fixation on a Co-Worker. Titled Near-Death Travel Services, it arrives June 27 via Relapse (pre-order).

The new album was produced by the same person who helmed their debut, Steve Evetts, and in the words of the band, “We made a fucking Deadguy record.” With an even wider range of influences than they had three decades ago, they add, “This is just what it sounds like when we play together.”

The first taste is album opener “Kill Fee,” which has no lack of classic Deadguy hallmarks–the discordant guitars, the chaotic rhythms, the caustic shouts of Tim Singer. The production’s a little more crisp and modern than it was on Fixation on a Co-Worker, but not by much. It sounds like a Deadguy record.

The song comes with a video directed by William Saunders, and you can check that out below.

Deadguy will play the Rich Hall tribute/benefit show on June 14 at Brooklyn Monarch and they also announced an album release show happening at NJ’s Crossroads on July 12 with “special guests.”
