155-Room Kimpton Frankfurt Opens: A Playful New IHG Property

I realize I take more of an interest in the Frankfurt hotel market than most, so if this doesn’t interest you, by all means skip this post. I have family near Frankfurt, so I visit pretty often, and am always underwhelmed by the hotel choices. Along those lines, I’m excited about a recent hotel opening, which should at least be a fun, new option in the city, at a reasonable price point.

Basics of the new Kimpton Main Frankfurt

The Kimpton Main Frankfurt has opened as of the spring of 2025. The 155-key property is located in the the new FOUR development, an urban project that includes several high rises and public spaces. The Kimpton occupies the entire wing at Junghofstrasse 7-11, spread across six floors.

The property’s entrance is described as having a classic 1950s style. Kimpton always has a big focus on food & beverage outlets, and this property is no exception. The property has MAY (the lobby bar), LAZULI (a rooftop bar), and ANNI (an all-day European brasserie). Unlike many other hotel restaurants, I’d expect these to actually be pretty popular with outsiders.

The Kimpton has a gym, but no spa. Of course there are also meeting facilities for conferences. Accommodations aren’t particularly big, and start at 22 square meters (237 square feet). Below you can find some renderings of the property (I’m conflicted on the room design — do the rooms look retro chic, or like they’re at a Holiday Inn Express?).

As far as rates go, currently I see the Kimpton Frankfurt going for a bit over €200 per night, which seems reasonable.

For those redeeming points, I see rates starting at 36,000 IHG One Rewards points per night. That means on many nights, it’s possible to redeem an IHG credit free night award here, without even having to top it off.

I’m excited how the Frankfurt hotel market is evolving

Frankfurt is a quirky hotel market, because it’s a major financial hub, yet it has very little leisure traffic. As a result, the city seemingly just has an endless array of corporate, four-star hotels, and little more. On the plus side, 2025 should turn out to be a good year for hotels in the city.

This year, we should see the opening of Kennedy 89 Frankfurt, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property. While not uber-luxury, it looks like it should be quite a bit better than most of the existing options. We should also see the opening of The Florentin Frankfurt, an Althoff Collection property. This is the former Villa Kennedy property, and I’m sure it’ll be spectacular. It’s just sad that it won’t belong to any major hotel group.

I’d say based on the current properties, the Sofitel Frankfurt is probably the most luxurious property in the city, but that’s not necessarily saying a whole lot.

The Kimpton opening is also a big win for IHG, which doesn’t otherwise have many full service hotels in the city. The InterContinental Frankfurt closed in 2021, and was supposed to undergo a (much needed) renovation. However, it’s my understand that the renovation hasn’t even started, so one wonders what exactly is going on there.

Bottom line

The Kimpton Frankfurt has opened, and should be a fun new “lifestyle” hotel option for Frankfurt. Kimptons are known for having great restaurants and bars, and the property’s design looks fun. I’m looking forward to checking out this hotel, along with some of the other new options that are popping up.
