4 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

GRAILS – “STRANGE PARADISE”

Grails’ Emil Amos says it ” “wouldn’t occur to Grails to consciously return to the earlier sound of the band, but there are always melancholy moments that shine through and inadvertently take us back to the old school. ‘Strange Paradise’ goes back to the mid-2000’s when we were flipping out on Achim Reichel’s record Echo and marveling at its stoned wandering, damp and dark green sound. That texture was greatly maxxed out by Kelly Pratt’s flugelhorn solos and dank oboe textures on this track, helping to provide the appropriate post-coital atmosphere the record needed on its back end.” New album Miracle Music is out May 16.

MORGAN NAGLER – “ORANGE WINE” FT ALLISON CRUTCHFIELD & BETHANY COSENTINO

Morgan Nagler, who will be on tour with Rilo Kiley soon, has just shared this new single which was produced by Kyle “King Tuff” Thomas and features Allison Crutchfield and Bethany Cosentino on backing vocals. This one’s got skin contact and her debut album will be out later this year.

PROPAGANDHI – “CAT GUY”

Canadian punk vets Propagandhi have shared another single from their upcoming album At Peace. “From my songwriting perspective, the two things I was thinking of was capturing a little bit of Judas Priest’s Firepower LP as if SNFU’s Chi-Pig was writing the lyrics,” says frontman Chris Hannah.

LITTLE MAZARN – “THE GATE”

Austin trio Little Mazarn will release their new album Mustang Island on June 20 via Dear Life Records (MJ Lenderman, Fust). “”The Gate” was a song that came to me in a dream. I was in a profound state of grief at the time and in the dream I was offered a solution from the heavens to deal with the constant thundering pain of it inside my chest. Simply build a gate,” says the band’s Lindsey Verrill of the album’s first single. “I woke up and started dictating the words as they came to me into my phone. The musical scaffolding for the poetry was created together by Little Mazarn, our producer Britton Beisenherz, and a collaboration with the wonderful band Felt Out from Austin. Even though the subject matter of the song was really heavy, the studio was full of laughter and snacks.”
