An item of clothing worn by one of the characters in The White Lotus has sparked a theory as to who season three’s shooter may be.
Viewers have begun noticing that Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) wears a necklace with the face of Maggie Simpson on it, leading some to make a connection between a classic episode of The Simpsons and the identity of the shooter in this season.
Who Shot Mr. Burns? is one of the most famous storylines in the history of the cartoon series. The two-episode arc was a murder mystery, with part one being the final episode of season six, and the conclusion being the first episode of season seven. Both aired in 1995.
The storyline followed sinister billionaire Monty Burns, whose plan to block out the sun to increase energy sales from his nuclear power plant resulted in him making many enemies in the show’s town of Springfield. At the end of part one, Mr Burns is shot, with many beloved characters suspected as the one who pulled the trigger.
In a humorous conclusion to the mystery, it’s revealed that The Simpsons’ youngest, baby Maggie, shot Burns accidentally. It’s this character that fans believe may be the key to working out who the shooter is in this season of White Lotus, which began with a flash forward where gunfire is heard and a body is found.
A post on Reddit took a screenshot from the most recent episode, where Chloe is seen wearing the necklace. “I think this is a subtle Easter egg where Chloe is the shooter who accidentally kills her husband gregary or something” they conclude.

On X (formerly Twitter), a user echoed the theory. “White lotus prediction” they wrote. “Chloe has a maggie simpson necklace on. Maggie kills mr burns in the simpsons. Chloe def killing old guy this season”.
Theories have circulated across the internet as to who the shooter may be, but a cast member of The White Lotus, Michelle Monaghan, has publicly ruled out one of the wildest rumours.
