Here’s my Daredevil: Born Again Episode 7 review and to be honest the cracks are showing due to the do-over this week. This is a SPOILER Free review. I will therefore have to be vague on some of those cracks when we get there. I’ll start by saying, I still enjoyed the episode, there are some good ideas in play. However, this one effectively acts as a conclusion to the arc that began in Episode 6. Which would be fine, normally. However, I feel like what we got was missing either some context we should have gotten earlier, or referenced a version of this show no longer valid.
As I said, story beat wise we almost carry on from Episode 6. Last week Matt saved Hector’s daughter from Muse, but Muse escaped. Hector’s daughter has revealed she was saved by Daredevil and this sets the stage for Episode 7 to play out.
The Good
The action was well put together, and there was jeopardy and tension in scenes. Perhaps my favourite small moment in the episode was at the very end involving Fisk. The moment works as an answer to a questions we the audience are asking ourselves about an earlier moment. It was well shot, acted and written.
If you don’t look to closely, as I am beholden to to, you may have no issues with Episode 7 at all.
The Cracks
However, there are several cracks in Episode 7, which I’m sure are partly due to the whole do-over nature of Season 1. I feel like there were supposed to be more scenes previously showing that Heather had started treating Bastion. If not, then their conversation was badly written. I also feel like Matt and Heather’s relationship seems to have advanced extremely quickly given how it has been presented. I know time has passed in show, but it feels like they just started dating. Mainly because they’ve hardly spent any screen time together, outside their first date and a few sex scenes.
There’s also some very obvious ADR which is easily spotted from Heather at the start of a big scene. I have no issues with ADR, it’s essential, but it wasn’t edited in so well here.

Lastly, let’s talk Cherry. I feel like the show at points is trying to gaslight us into thinking he was in Daredevil Seasons 1-3. Is this a victim of the fact the show was originally not going to acknowledge the old series much? Perhaps it is, perhaps it’s just not great set up. Either way, there’s a line between Matt and Cherry this week which shouts this out. Matt comments to Cherry about their shared past in a ‘remember when moment’. Yet we as the audience, who did watch Daredevil 1-3 are like….’nope, no one remembers this Matt, because it didn’t happen.’ Far as we the audience know, the first time Cherry ever met Matt was on that rooftop flashback for Episode 1.
Not A Disaster
Look as said, I still enjoyed it, this is not a disaster of an episode and it does not ruin the show. The good thing is that both Episodes 8 and 9, which end Season 1 were written and shot after the do-over. Therefore, we can at least expect a consistent narrative, or we can hope so.
But yeah, the cracks really showed on this one for me. I still had fun, just don’t think too hard about a few moments and it’s still fun. Hopefully form this point on, both in Season 1 and the currently shotting Season 2, things will improve.
GRADE: B-
Not awful, slightly sketchy. Probably the poorest episode of the season. However, still enjoyable and has some moments you’ll enjoy, if you like Daredevil.
