An ultra-rare example of modern coachbuilding, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring is now available through RM Sotheby’s Private Sales. Commissioned as a unique "C52 Edition" and showing fewer than 11,600 km from new, this one-off creation celebrates the iconic 1952 Alfa Romeo C52 "Disco Volante" — a car widely regarded as one of Carrozzeria Touring’s most influential designs.Built atop the chassis of an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the modern Disco Volante was first unveiled in 2012 and met with immediate acclaim. Fewer than ten coupes were believed to have been produced, each customized to the owner’s specifications. This particular example, completed in 2018, wears hand-beaten aluminum bodywork finished in Rosso paint that pays homage to the original C52. Subtle details include period-correct Alfa Romeo badges, a distinctive grille cross motif, painted Quadrifoglio fender emblems and matte carbon accents. The rear window has been replaced with a sleek black panel for a cleaner silhouette.Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leather with red accents and features a brown leather-wrapped steering wheel reminiscent of classic wooden designs. Originally delivered with 6,300 km on its donor 8C, the car has since seen an additional 5,200 km.
