The Future Of Amazon’s “Citadel” Looks Grim

The future of Amazon’s multi-series spy franchise “Citadel” looks to be on shaky ground.

Multiple sources for Heat Vision report that the second season of the main series is being pushed from a planned fall 2025 release to a spring 2026 debut.

In addition, all further spinoff series are on hold “until the second season is released, if not indefinitely.” It’s also added that Amazon MGM execs are “unhappy with what they have seen so far” of the second season.

The Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra-led series was produced by Joe and Anhony Russo and launched in early 2023 with the aim of being a Bond-style TV series.

However the project quickly became more famous for its expense. Extensive reshoots and behind-the-scenes issues led to a final production budget of $300 million for just six episodes. That makes it the second most expensive series made at $50 million per episode (behind only “Rings of Power” Season 1 at $58 million).

The show launched to mixed-poor reviews while the title failed to make the Nielsen Top 10 streaming originals chart until its final episode.

One of the show’s biggest supporters, Jennifer Salke, is now out at Amazon while the James Bond takeover deal has now closed so Amazon is likely far more interested in developing that than further “Citadel” in the near future.
