Schreier In Talks To Direct Marvel’s “X-Men”

Hot off his success with “Thunderbolts*” in cinemas, filmmaker Jake Schreier looks set to stay in the Marvel Studios fold.

Deadline reports that Schreier is in early talks to direct the new “X-Men” film, which has been in development for a while with Michael Lesslie writing the script and Kevin Feige producing.

The trade says Schreier emerged as the top choice to take on the project and a meeting this past week “sealed the deal”. They have reportedly taken time to find the right person, with Schreier emerging on top after months of meetings.

His film opening to some of the best reviews in years for Marvel certainly didn’t hurt his chances, as did the fact he’s a big X-Men comics fan. Schreier has begun turning down other jobs in recent days, suggesting things are getting serious for that X-Men gig.

The hiring follows news on the weekend that Feige “has a 10-year plan for the X-Men” with the new “Avengers” films expected to serve as an introduction to at least some of the characters.

Speculation has been high as to when “X-Men” could premiere with the title potentially taking a late 2027 release slot as the first post-“Secret Wars” film.
