Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo are set to be occupied directing both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” for much of the next two years.

Even though they are yet to shoot a frame for the film, the pair tell Collider this week they already have runtimes in mind for the two features. One says: “If I were a betting man, I would say the first one is two and a half, and the second one’s three hours.”

That puts the films on par with “Avengers: Infinity War” at 149 minutes and “Avengers: Endgame” at 181 minutes.

Speaking with GamesRadar+, the pair adds that they aim to ‘beat’ their younger selves with the hope both films will top their prior cinematic juggernauts:

Joe Russo: “Absolutely, we want to beat those younger versions of ourselves. We have to be, right? Because we have to outdo those movies in a way, or we at least have to take you on an equally engaging journey.”

Anthony Russo: “These movies are an incredible opportunity for us, and they’re an incredible opportunity for audiences. So we’re doing what we can to deliver the experience everyone, I think, hopes for.”

The pair also tell ET Online that actor Robert Downey Jr. has ‘fully immersed himself’ in the role of Victor Von Doom, saying:

“He’s writing backstory, costume ideas… he just really loves rich three-dimensional characters, and I think he sees a real opportunity here.”

The talk comes as all sorts of rumors about the film’s story have spread with The Cosmic Circus posting a report suggesting Doom is trying to stop multiverse incursions and save his and others from collapse – even if it means the destruction of the Sacred Timeline in the process.

“Avengers: Doomsday” arrives in cinemas on May 1st 2026 followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7th 2027. “Spider-Man 4” will be released between those movies on July 31st 2026.
