Rémy Cointreau expands Westland American Single Malt Whiskey in North American travel retail
The Seattle launch marks a pivotal moment for Westland in travel retail, following its Americas debut in 2024 at airports in New York, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail has launched Westland American Single Malt Whiskey at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in collaboration with Avolta.
As the home of Westland Distillery, Seattle serves as a strategic launch location, underscoring Rémy Cointreau’s commitment to developing its premium spirits offering in the region.
Westland American Single Malt Whiskey made its global travel retail debut last year, launching initially in New York JFK Terminal 1 and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Terminal D, followed by further expansions in JFK Terminal 4, San Francisco International, and Los Angeles Tom Bradley International Terminal in partnership with DFS Group.
Westland is a pioneer in the American single malt whiskey category, distilling its whiskies in Seattle’s SoDo district. Visitors to the distillery can explore the whiskey-making process through guided tastings and tours.
The recent official recognition of American single malt whiskey as a designated category by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) represents a milestone for the segment, cementing its position in the global whiskey landscape.
Further strengthening its footprint in travel retail, Westland has secured its first cruise listing through a partnership with Holland America Line. The collaboration will see Westland available on the cruise company’s Alaskan itinerary, offering passengers access to a special single cask bottling, alongside the flagship Westland expression.
Additionally, an exclusive single cask release will feature on Holland America’s Caribbean routes.
In celebration of this partnership, renowned bartender Sam Ross, known for creating the Penicillin cocktail, has adapted his whiskey sour recipe to feature Westland’s expression. The PNW Penicillin will be served onboard Holland America vessels.
In 2024 Westland Distillery achieved B Corp Certification, reflecting its commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Sustainability is deeply embedded in the brand’s ethos with a focus on land stewardship, heritage and patience. This sustainability-driven philosophy played a key role in the selection of Westland by Holland America, which prioritises locally sourced, high-quality spirits for its guests.
Westland Managing Director Jason Moore commented, “Westland is thrilled to launch its American Single Malt in Seattle Tacoma-International Airport, and onboard Holland America, allowing for more people globally to savour the whiskey. We are excited to embark on this journey of delivering exceptional spirits to more discerning customers worldwide, setting a new standard for the duty-free shopping experience.”
A distinctive American single malt whiskey offering
Currently, Westland’s travel retail portfolio focuses on Westland Flagship – a DFS-exclusive single cask release – and Colere 4. These expressions align with the brand’s vision of offering travellers a compelling exploration of American single malt whiskey.
Founded in 2010 and acquired by Rémy Cointreau in 2017, Westland Distillery is a pioneer in American single malt whiskey, drawing inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s terroir.
Westland uses 100% malted barley, Belgian Saison brewer’s yeast and a maturation process that includes new American oak, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The distillery crafts expressions that challenge traditional American whiskey conventions while paying homage to age-old distilling traditions.
The flagship Westland Single Malt is the culmination of over ten years pioneering a new category of American whiskey.
