Although Xbox Game Pass is primarily known as one of the best deals in gaming, Sony’s online subscription service ain’t no slouch either. Beyond the monthly games for its Essential tier, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers get access to the Games Catalog, a curated list of solid games for the PS4 and PS5. Exclusively for Premium members, the Classics Catalog is an added bonus which lets subscribers play several PS1 and PS2 games at no additional cost. It seems this direction is a solid one, as the company saw an increase in revenue from the online service due to users upgrading to higher tiers.

PS Plus revenue up 20% this quarter due to users upgrading to higher tiers

New date from Sony’s third quarter financial report for the 2024 fiscal year claims the company saw a 20% year-on-year increase. They state this is due to players shifting to higher tiers. This would mean a good amount of players probably upgraded to higher costing PS Plus tiers like its Extra or Premium options.

“As for PlayStation Plus, revenue in the quarter increased 20% year-on-year on a U.S. dollar basis, primarily due to an increase in average revenue per user (“ARPU”) mainly due to a shift to higher tiers of service and the impact of price revisions,” reads the report.

PS Plus has been bringing some really solid titles to its Games Catalog for Extra and Premium subscribers. Just recently, Sony announced during the recent State of Play that it would be bringing the critically acclaimed action game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to the service on February 18. At the same event, the company announced the upcoming narrative adventure game Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will launch on the service on that same date. For its Classics Catalog, the fan-favorite PSP classic Patapon 3 is finally being added for Premium users.
