Sony sued again for PS Store prices

Sony Interactive Entertainment is in a peculiar spot with its multiplayer live-service game initiative. The PS5 saw incredible success with Helldivers 2, but was undermined by the failure of Concord. However, despite its fruitless efforts, the company seems to be continuing to attempt to break through the live-service genre with more games according to a recent job listing.

PlayStation Studio job listing hints new AAA original IP will be a co-op game

In a recent PlayStation Game Systems Designer job posting for its new Los Angeles studio (as spotted by Tech4Gamers), it states the studio is looking to “create the next groundbreaking AAA original IP.” This isn’t new as previous job postings for this studio stated the same thing. However, this specific job posting gives some insight on what this game may entail.

In the qualifications section, it lists most of the requirements anyone would expect on a job listing. However, one specific line gives an indication on the type of game the LA-based PlayStation Studio is working.

“Experience with and knowledge of cooperative multiplayer design principles and ideals,” reads the posting.

It seems this new PlayStation studio is working on a co-op multiplayer and is being positioned on the same level as its staple franchises. Other than these small details, nothing else is known about the project.

In January, a similar job ad revealed the existence of the new PlayStation studio. It is rumored former Call of Duty developer Jason Blundell is heading the studio after Deviation Games shut down in 2023. Former members of his team confirmed they were working at PlayStation after the studio’s closure under Blundell’s leadership.

It was recently reported that Concord’s tumultuous launch shifted Sony’s live-service strategy in a significant way. According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, the company is reassessing its live-service slate. It has also canceled a handful of live-service games, including a God of War multiplayer game by Bluepoint Games.
