Computer Artworks’ 2002 third-person shooter The Thing is based on the beloved horror film. Acting as a sequel to John Carpenter’s Kurt Russell-led story, it has become a bit of a cult classic, with a recent remaster from Nightdive Studios.
That release, simply titled The Thing: Remastered, is a hit for the developer as it became their fastest-selling title at launch. The studio will try to continue that success with a physical version for the game, which will be available for PS5.
The Thing: Remastered PS5 physical release preorders available now
The Thing: Remastered PS5 physical release comes in two forms. The Standard Edition includes just the base game. The Deluxe Edition comes with a few extra goodies that are perfect for fans of both the film and the game. This includes a poster, sew-on patches, steelbook, Captain J.F. Blake ID card, the game, and the collector’s box. The Standard Edition costs $34.99, while the Deluxe Edition is $49.99.
Both editions of The Thing: Remastered can be preordered today. It is currently only available through Atari’s store, which lists June 25 as the ship date.
“The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the 2002 third-person survival horror shooter inspired by Universal Pictures’ genre-defining 1982 film, The Thing,” reads the official description of the game. “Nightdive Studios has upgraded this classic for the modern era with hand-crafted improvements to character models, textures, and animations. The suspenseful and disgustingly detailed remaster reanimates the thrilling game for modern audiences.”
The Thing: Remastered launched last December for PS5, and PS5, and is available to purchase on the PS Store. Players that do not care for physical releases can save a bit of cash on the digital version as it is priced at $29.99.
This newly enhanced version of the 2002 third-person horror shooter faithfully recreates the original, but modernizes it with features like 4K resolution, and frame rates up to 120 frames per second.
