Next “Spider-Man” Casting Mister Negative?

Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” begins shooting in the Summer, but so far casting on the film has been relatively slim.

We know Tom Holland will be back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for a fourth solo outing, that Sadie Sink will have a major role, and that Zendaya is expected to have a minor supporting role.

But who else will show up? Scooper DanielRPK (via CBM) doesn’t have an actor name for us this weekend, but he does have details on a character – indicating the project is aiming to cast an Asian actor between the ages of 30 and 50 for a major role.

This has quickly led to speculation that the character is none other than Martin Li/Mr. Negative – a character who was introduced in the comics during the ‘Brand New Day’ storyline in 2008.

The character became even more famous for serving as one of the major characters in Sony’s 2018 “Marvel’s Spider-Man” PlayStation game. He was the main villain for much of the game’s first half, and briefly returned in the sequel.

In the lore, Martin Li is a benevolent and kind philanthropist who founded the F.E.A.S.T. Project as a means to help the homeless. He has a split personality, the other being Mister Negative who is a ruthless crime lord who leads the ‘Inner Demons’ gang and is determined to control the underworld of New York’s Chinatown.

The character is known for his distinct look that resembles a photographic negative as all the color and light on his skin, hair and outfit is inverted. He has powers of healing, mind-control and to electrically charge weapons. His touch can ‘corrupt’ others, whereas in his Martin Li persona his touch can heal people of grave illnesses.

F.E.A.S.T. was already introduced in past “Spider-Man” films, but Li hasn’t ever been mentioned or referenced as yet.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently tracking for a July 31st 2026 release.
