Japan’s Kansai International Airport – part of the network of VINCI Airports (a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub) – is installing three Rohde & Schwarz QPS201 security scanners. The state-of-the-art scanners will be utilised in new checkpoints. The QPS201 scanner model is designed to combine the highest level of detection capabilities with efficient and intuitive procedures to benefit both passengers and staff. They employ innovative millimetre-wave technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based algorithms to meet all regulatory requirements for detecting prohibited items while minimising false alarm rates. This technology aims to ensure that security measures are both effective and user-friendly, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Kansai International Airport, a major international hub in Japan, has embarked on an extensive renovation of Terminal 1. As part of this overhaul, the airport’s security screening area is being revamped with new, advanced screening equipment, including the QPS201 units from Rohde & Schwarz.

“We are extremely proud to be part of this airport modernisation project and to have gained Kansai International Airport’s trust to make travel safe and convenient for passengers and crew,” said Andreas Haegele, Head of Microwave Imaging, Rohde & Schwarz.
