The first trailer from the highly anticipated “Tron: Ares” has been released and follows in the wake of a five-minute sneak peek shared with exhibitors at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Shot in Vancouver throughout the first half of 2024 by filmmaker Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Young Woman and the Sea”) and co-written by Jesse Wigutow (“Daredevil: Born Again”) and Jack Thorne (“Adolescence,” “Enola Holmes “)
The story follows a highly sophisticated program names Ares (Jared Leto) who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
Gillian Anderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, and Cameron Monaghan co-star in the film which has Nine Inch Nails composing the score. Production reportedly went quite smoothly.
The film follows on from Joseph Kosinski’s “Tron: Legacy,” the 2010 released sequel to the original 1982 film. ‘Legacy’ pulled in $409.9 million from a $170 million budget and has become something of a cult film with much appreciation of the film’s score and visual style/production design.
“TRON: Ares” is set to hit cinemas on October 10th 2025.
